5 Of The Most Powerful EDC Flashlights You Can Buy

Flashlights are a handy, if often overlooked, tool, whether you’re building out a handy toolkit for home or work, preparing for power outages, or simply want a portable light source when out and about. There are several strong and popular flashlight brands on the market, with many specializing in small yet capable flashlight models for regular use. These are known as everyday carry (or EDC) flashlights, and they’re designed to provide as much light as possible in a portable package — and some of them can get very powerful indeed.

There are lots of EDC flashlights out there, with multiple factors that can influence a purchasing decision. Size, shape, and portability are all key, but power and brightness are undeniably the most important. Generally speaking, a few hundred lumens will serve you well enough for everyday situations, but there are EDC flashlights that can reach well over 1,000 lumens. 

The most powerful of the bunch claim to output over 10,000 lumens, providing near-unmatched levels of lighting for the size. If power is what you’re after from an EDC flashlight, these are some of the most powerful models currently out there.

If you’re after something that looks a bit more like a traditional flashlight and delivers in the lighting department — though not to the level of the brightest flashlights you can presently buy — there’s the Olight Marauder Mini. This 5.5-inch-long, 2.09-inch-wide flashlight produces 7,000 lumens maximum when using the nine outer LEDs, a near-1,970-foot throw when using the central LED spotlight beam, and a 43.5-hour max runtime. Inside is a 24 Wh 32650 rechargeable battery, which can be replenished using the included magnetic USB-C charging cable. Included with it are a lanyard and holster for easy transport.

The Marauder Mini has two toggle dials on the side. One swaps modes, from spotlight to floodlight, while the other cycles through the seven brightness levels. It comes in three colors, namely black, orange, and Midnight Blue. All three colors have an MSRP of $199.99 on Amazon, although you can regularly find them discounted to $139.99.

Nitecore knows a thing or two about flashlights. Some of its offerings are among the best rechargeable flashlights for camping and hiking trips, but it also has a great EDC flashlight in the form of the Nitecore EDC37, which is an exceptionally mighty yet small flashlight prime for constant carry. The NiteLab UHi 20 MAX LED it uses has a maximum output of 8,000 lumens and a 1,377-foot reach. Nitecore claims that the rechargeable battery is good for up to 190 hours on the lowest brightness setting and will recharge in two hours. Like many others in its class, the EDC37 recharges via USB-C.

The EDC37 measures 4.25 inches long, 1.55 inches wide, and 1.22 inches tall and weighs 7.2 ounces. The model has six different light modes, including spotlight, floodlight, and strobe modes. There’s a built-in OLED screen on the side to relay information about battery life, brightness level, and more, as well as two dual-stage buttons. The one on the bottom controls the brightness and power, while the other can be set to enable one of three alternative lighting modes. The EDC37 retails for $139.95 on Amazon and comes with a lanyard and a USB-C charging cable.

Another option if you’re looking for a powerful, compact EDC flashlight is the Fenix LR35R. The LS3R runs six Luminus SST-40 LEDs, which together provide a maximum output of 10,000 lumens and a beam distance of 1,640 feet. It has five brightness levels and a strobe light feature as well. It runs on two 4 Ah Li-On batteries that charge via USB-C, which Fenix claims will provide up to 80 hours of runtime, although the company doesn’t specify the light level required to reach that figure. The LR35R also has a battery indicator light to let you know just how much longer you have before it runs out of power.

Fenix’s 10,000-lumen flashlight has a memory circuit that recalls the brightness level it was previously set to, a lockout feature that stops you from accidentally turning it on and draining the battery, and overheating protection. It’s IP68 dust- and waterproof, measures 5.5 inches long and 1.8 inches wide, with a 2-inch-wide head. It weighs around 8.4 ounces without batteries. The LR35R will set you back $205 on Amazon, where it comes with extras including a lanyard, a holster, a battery carrying case, and a USB-A-to-C charging cable.

Another powerful yet compact and durable EDC flashlight to keep on your radar is the Wuben Lightok X1. This one is a significant step up from the previous models, with an advertised output of 12,000 lumens and a reach of approximately 994 feet — pretty impressive for a small flashlight. The Lightok X1 comes from three 6,000 Kelvin 70.2 LED beads, which provide a wide-angle floodlight to cover more area on either side of the user. The Lightok X1 has seven lighting modes, including strobe and SOS.

Wuben highlights a few other elements that make the Lightok X1 such a notable model aside from its brightness and light options. One is the rectangular shape, which makes this flashlight a fine choice for consistent carry and makes it compatible with the optional Wuben AT2X+ bicycle mount attachment, making it one of many excellent gadgets for bike-riding. This model comes in three different colors — black, white, and green-beige — and charges in roughly two hours with a USB-C cable, with a battery capable of 1.7 hours of constant use at 3,000 lumens. The Wuben Lightok X1 is available from the Wuben website for $249.99.

The Imalent MS03 is a standout flashlight, both among Imalent’s flashlights as well as the EDC market as a whole. This flashlight boasts an astounding 13,000 lumens maximum thanks to three CREE XHP70.2 LEDs. On top of that, it claims to have a beam distance of approximately 1,063 feet and a longevity of around 1 hour and 15 minutes when set to 1,300 lumens. Imalent offers two variants: The MS03 has a cool white hue, while the MS03W, available through the Imalent website, emits a warm white light.

The MS03 has a 4 Ah 21700 rechargeable battery, which charges via a USB-C connector. It measures 4.3 inches long and has a maximum diameter of around 1.4 inches, and comes with a holster and lanyard included for easy carry. At $129.95, the Imalent MS03 is one of the more affordable flashlights on this list, and that’s despite having an impressive light output for an everyday carry model. It also competes well with some of the most powerful flashlights available through Amazon, making it reasonably good value overall.

Selecting these EDC flashlights required an involved process. For one, we had to determine what a powerful EDC flashlight actually was. While there’s no official definition, we prioritized models capable of around 10,000 lumens, give or take a few thousand. With that said, while power was a critical factor in our selection, we also considered other aspects.

Not only did they have to illuminate exceptionally well, but they had to be truly mobile flashlights suitable for everyday carry, and strike a fine balance between power, size, and weight. Pricing was also a factor, as was the presence of additional features or capabilities that would make a flashlight a good daily companion.
